Risk Assessment and the Bible - Part 1
“He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.” Ecclesiastes 11:4
Dear Family and Friends, We live in a risky world. Even going to church can cause pause with the potential for traffic accidents, active shooters and communicable viruses. It is important to know then, especially as believers, what kinds of risks would be considered folly and what kinds are worth it. One thing is sure, without the taking of risks there can be no forward movement for our lives, our relationships or our church. Solomon reminded us that if we magnify every difficulty and make the worst of it, we will never get anywhere, “He that observes the wind shall not sow; and he that regards the clouds shall not reap” (Ecclesiastes 11:4). If a farmer leaves off planting for the sake of every little cloud, and harvesting for the sake of any wind, he will go broke! Obeying God through joint prayer and fellowship are even more necessary than farming and will certainly return far greater benefits to us spiritually and often physically. We must not be deterred from the great privilege of serving God together with other believers in church. There will always be risk – some wind, some cloud or other, to discourage us. But winds and clouds are in God's hands and are allowed for a divine purpose. As it has been said, if you risk nothing, then you risk everything! We’ll talk more about this subject next week. Until then… Trusting God, Dr. Tim Pollock, Senior Pastor
